Blackburn Rovers official Derek Shaw comments on Jordan Rhodes' future

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly interested in signing Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes.

Blackburn Rovers managing director Derek Shaw has confirmed to the Guardian that the club has no interest in selling Jordan Rhodes in the January transfer window.

HITC have reported that Rhodes is set to be a target of Sheffield Wednesday in the new year, but Shaw is not interested in listening to offers for the Scotland international.

Instead, Blackburn have other plans to get themselves out of financial trouble, and they believe that no players sales will be nessesary in the near future.

“It’s something we’ve been working on for months now; we are making good progress,” Shaw said. “I have stated before that we were possibly one sale away from being released from FFP, but we’re not looking to sell a player. We have other irons in the fire which hopefully will clear us from that.”

Wednesday have been touted as a possible destination for Rhodes, as the Owls have been very impressed with the clinical forward.

Rhodes has smashed in goals with regularity for a number of seasons, but new Blackburn boss also confirmed his desire to keep the striker.

“Jordan Rhodes can be as important to me as [Christian] Benteke and [Grant] Holt was," Lambert added to the Daily Mail. “His goalscoring record is incredible.”

Rhodes has been with Blackburn since 2012, and in those three years, he has netted 81 goals in 148 Championship appearances.

The 25-year-old is now expected be crucial for Lambert’s plans, as the former Aston Villa manager looks to guide Rovers up the table.
