Could Arjen Robben be in line for a shock move to Manchester United?
The rumour could be pure speculation, the type which tends to surface during international breaks. Yet the fact he used to play for Louis van Gaal at the German side could also suggest it has legs.
Van Gaal has already raided his former side for Bastian Schweinsteiger, and The Mail reported he attempted to sign Thomas Muller in the transfer window too.
The United boss recently told the Manchester Evening News he wanted to add a pacy winger to the squad, and on form there are few better in the world than Robben.
Van Gaal has even managed Robben successfully at Old Trafford once before, he was the boss as Bayern knocked United out of the Champions League in 2010, with the winger scoring a late volley to break the hearts of home fans.
The big question is whether Robben can stay fit. He has played in only one of their four Champions League games this season - and just six of 12 Bundesliga matches. In the games he has played he has been effective, with a record of five goals in 10 matches in all competitions.
There is concern among United fans regarding his age and fitness, but generally the potential of signing Robben, whose contract expires in June 2017, has created an excitement among supporters.
Here is a look at the reaction to the transfer talk...
United signing Robben would be better than signing Ronaldo imo— 6 (@SignoreVerratti) November 15, 2015
I’d LOVE Robben at United. The fee would be massive though. Mane or Robben? No debate IMO.— Chris (@BoughtonRed) November 15, 2015
Huge fan of Robben. He’s still one of the best around but his injury record would be a concern, especially at his age.— Joe (@JoeTmufc) November 15, 2015
Robben would be an ideal fit for our RM position, would not cost much either. (Doubt Bale will come)— #SikhLivesMatter (@CalvinHeer) November 15, 2015
Robben would be a fantastic player for United, creates things out of nothing, we need a superstar player like that in our team right now.— NM (@UtdDi) November 15, 2015
Would be incredible if we signed Robben, the guy is a machine. Would mean Mata could play #10 as well.— Alex (@AndersTouch) November 14, 2015
Would love Robben at United, he may be 31 but still is class. The way he cuts in from the right and puts it in with his left is amazing— Jonah (@Muller4231) November 14, 2015
