Twente star Hakim Ziyech has been superb so far this season.
His crowning moment thus far came against Norwich City, where the 25-year-old notched four goals in a thrilling 6-2 victory, matching a previous record set by Newcastle hero Alan Shearer.
Wijnaldum hasn’t been the only import from the Eredivisie to succeed in the Premier League, with Southampton trio Dusan Tadic, Graziano Pelle and Jordy Clasie fellow standouts.
The Dutch top-flight may not be among Europe’s leading leagues, yet that doesn’t mean there aren’t real finds to be had, especially within the squads of the so-called bigger clubs.
McClaren will know all about FC Twente having won the Eredivisie title during his time at the club, and their current outstanding player Hakim Ziyech is making plenty of observers sit up and take notice.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been brilliant so far this season, scoring seven goals and adding a further four assists in 12 league starts for the club.
His record is even more impressive considering the fact that he is predominantly a midfielder, and furthermore he is playing in a Twente side currently lying just two points above the drop zone.
Ziyech, a one-cap Moroccan international, averages a hugely impressive 4.8 shots, 3.1 key passes and 1.3 successful take-ons per match
His key attributes are his ability to create chances via key passes, his close ball-control and set-piece taking, which has already resulted in more than one goal this season.
Newcastle are currently opting for a different tact when it comes to transfers – buying players such as Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic who have huge potential – and Ziyech falls into this category.
McClaren is renowned for his coaching ability and the potential is there for Ziyech to become one of the best players to come out of Holland in recent years.
