The recent Aston Villa arrival will not play again this season.
The 21-year-old signed for Villa in the summer but after just 12 appearances for his new club he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing for France’s under-21s last week.
The news will come as a huge blow to new Villa boss Remi Garde, who will have known the left-back from his time managing in France and who restored him to the Villa starting line-up for his first match in charge against Manchester City last weekend.
Amavi joined Villa from Ligue 1 club Nice, where he played 60 matches, and he wasted little time showing what he is capable of, providing three assists for his new side to date.
At just 21 he was always going to have dips in form and take time to learn how to defend effectively in the Premier League but he was certainly heading in the right direction prior to his setback.
Following the news we took to Twitter to see what Villa fans thought of Amavi’s injury and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Gutted for #amavi but think Villa would miss others more. Lescott, Clark or Richardson can fill in.— Pete (@eatmygoal165) November 15, 2015
Amavi will still get Villa's player of the season.— dave (@doc3d) November 15, 2015
Gutted for Amavi. Given the choice I'd bring Bennett back from his loan rather than play Richardson or Crespo.— Andy Townsend (@AndyTownsend_AV) November 15, 2015
Gutted about Amavi being out of the season. The only player we have no real alternative for too (Kieran Richardson is no alternative). #avfc— Anthony Pearson (@anthonypears09) November 15, 2015
I'd rather have a one legged Amavi play than Richardson— J o r d a n (@Jordann1874) November 15, 2015
recall joe bennett from his loan move, have a speedy recovery amavi— Sam Mason (@nosammas) November 15, 2015
