The Argentine defender was lucky not to be reprimanded for a moment of madness against Brazil.
With the game running down and the score tied at 1-1 in Buenos Aires, the former River Plate man was in the opposition penalty box attacking a set-piece.
However, when the ball broke, Funes Mori was captured on camera stamping on Brazilian full-back Dani Alves, in an incident that went unpunished.
Everton's Funes Morí stamps on Dani Alves deliberately, and escapes a red-card. Luckily, he didn't break his leg. https://t.co/3B0Wca8EKv— Sán (@Zizouology) November 14, 2015
The Barcelona star fell to the ground and later remonstrated with the referee, but no action was taken against the Everton man. It remains to be seen whether any retrospective disciplinary measures will be forthcoming.
Replacing the unavailable Ezequiel Garay, the new Goodison Park star slotted into the home side’s defence alongside Manchester City’s Nicolas Otamendi and had a solid outing overall.
Most Everton fans would agree that Funes Mori has looked like an impressive addition to Roberto Martinez’s squad since his move to England int he summer.
