Report: Wolves want Gouffran but player prefers Newcastle stay

The Championship side reportedly want the Newcastle forward on loan.

Wolverhampton Wanderers want to sign Yoan Gouffran from Newcastle United on loan before the end of November, according to the Chronicle.

The much-criticised Frenchman is now out of favour at St James' Park and Wolves are one of the Championship clubs reportedly interested in bringing him on board.

The Chronicle report that Gouffran joining could also increase the chances of Mike Williamson moving to the Midlands on a permanent deal, already being on loan from Newcastle.

Gouffran, like Williamson, has struggled for some time with the Magpies, becoming unpopular with fans and eventually struggling for game time.

Moving the 29-year-old on will no doubt be considered a necessary move for Steve McClaren and co - and quite an achievement if it comes off.

Are the rest of the Newcastle squad good enough to make an impact and keep the Tyneside outfit in the Premier League this season?

There have been some positive signs of late, even if the majority of the campaign has still followed the pattern of last season.

The 6-2 win over Norwich City showed Newcastle can do some damage on the attack. The win against Bournemouth proved McClaren's men can play badly but still get a result. Can they do it more often, though?
