Leeds United boss Steve Evans hails magnificent Gaetano Berardi and praises centre-back trio

The Leeds United boss is clearly happy with his defensive options.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has been speaking about his defensive options in an interview with BBC Radio Yorkshire.

Evans replaced Uwe Rosler in charge at Elland Road in October and after collecting just two points from his first three matches he recently inspired his side to back-to-back victories against Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town.

As a result, Leeds are now 15th in the Championship table heading into the latest international break, and with two consecutive clean sheets the Whites back-line has clearly bought into Evans’ ethos.

Speaking to BBC Radio Yorkshire on Thursday, Leeds’ plentiful options in defence was something Evans touched on, reserving special praise for Swiss full-back Gaetano Berardi.

Referring firstly to his right-backs, Evans said, “If you look at the options we have across the back is it Scott Wootton? Is it Sam Byram? Is it Berardi if he comes across…at left back he’s been doing a magnificent job for us but Charlie Taylor will be involved in the travelling party for Wycombe.

“Central defensively we’ve got three guys and I could play two of them any day of the week and I’d be confident they would deliver.”

Those three guys to which Evans refers are Sol Bamba, Liam Cooper and Giuseppe Bellusci, and if they continue to play to their full potential, they could be the difference between success and failure this season.
