England player ratings v Spain - Adam Lallana struggles as nobody shines

England struggled in a 2-0 defeat against Spain.

Joe Hart - 5

Played well, before he spooned a clearance and embarrassingly moaned to the linesman about the second goal.

Phil Jones - 6

Made some good blocks, perhaps goes to the ground too much but was a decent performance.

Chris Smalling - 6

Could do little about the first goal despite being in the proximity. Made some good challenges and did his chances no harm.

Kyle Walker - 5

So inconsistent. One minute he looks good, the next poor. Not good enough.

Ryan Bertrand - 6

Hard to blame him for the first goal, he was right to push on. Was good in possession and dangerous going forward.

Fabian Delph - 5

Had his moments going forward but another England player guilty of giving the ball away too often. Not bad considering his lack of playing time this season but not great.

Subbed off on the hour.

Michael Carrick - 4

His job was to get on the ball - he barely touched it. A poor night was compounded late on with an injury.

Adam Lallana - 4

The Liverpool midfielder had a chance to stamp his claim to a starting spot, but he put in a poor showing in Alicante.

Seemingly desperate to give away the ball at every opportunity he also failed to track Jordi Alba for most of the game. Subbed off after the hour.

Raheem Sterling - 5

The most dangerous looking player going forward but looked lost in the final third. Needs to be more decisive.

Ross Barkley - 5

Had a promising first-half but went absent in the second. Took off for Wayne Rooney.

Harry Kane - 5

Toiled up front in a tough night. However he had chances that he needs to take in these pressure games.

Dele Alli - 5

Tried to get involved and got a little tasty with the Spanish players but had little impact. Had a chance he should have taken late on.

Eric Dier - 6

Made a telling pass late on and didn't look out of place.

Wayne Rooney - 5

Had a decent effort late on and tried to up the tempo going forward.

Jonjo Shelvey - N/A

Came on in the 90th minute for an injured Michael Carrick.
