Battle to secure Preston midfielder Josh Brownhill on loan intensifies

Preston North End

HITC Sport understands that League One outfit Oldham Athletic lead the chase at present.

A number of clubs are battling to land Preston North End midfield prospect Josh Brownhill on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to a potential deal.

Up to half a dozen clubs are understood to be keen on landing the former Manchester United youth product.

HITC Sport understands that Oldham Athletic are in pole position to grab Brownhill.

Oldham boss David Dunn wants somebody similar to himself and he sees huge potential in Brownhill, who has found his chances limited in the Championship this season – making just one substitute appearance in the second tier and two starts in the Capital One Cup.

Brownhill, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has attracted interest from Premier League and Championship clubs, was not looking to drop back down to League One in an ideal world - but the chance to work with Dunn is believed to appeal.

The 19-year-old could now seal a move to Boundary Park on a short-term loan.
