Tottenham star Mousa Dembele injured after training warm-up on international duty

Mousa Dembele is nursing an injury with Belgium.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has picked up an injury on international duty.

Belgian outlet DeMorgen reported the Premier League star injured his calf in the warm-up, and returned to the changing rooms.

Nieuwsblade also confirmed he did not take part in a full training session, which came after being allowed to just do gym work the day before, as he played in the North London derby on Sunday.

Dembele told Nieuwsblade he did not regard the injury as serious, but even so it will have to be monitored, and was enough to keep him out of training.

Belgium are unlikely to want to take any chances over the midfielder's fitness, with just friendly games this week. Belgium face Italy on Friday and then Spain next week.

The injury is a blow to Dembele, who had wanted to carry over his club form for his country, having been a bit part player in recent games for the Red Devils.

He said: "The (qualifying) campaign was good, but it does not stop there for me. I want to be important to the team.

"If I get my chance, I will do my best. If I play at my club, it looks good."

Dembele is currently in the midst of his best run of form under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, and with an important game against West Ham after the international break, Spurs will also been keeping a watchful eye on developments.
