The Leeds United XI Steve Evans should pick v Wycombe Wanderers

Leeds United 2

Why this is the experimental XI Steve Evans should pick in this week's friendly against Wycombe Wanderers.

Leeds United have a friendly match this Friday, when they face League Two side Wycombe Wanderers.

The match gives an opportunity for players to work on their match fitness and sharpness, and prove a point to new boss Steve Evans.

It allows Evans to learn about his squad, especially those on the fringes, although the head coach told Leeds' website this week he intends on playing a strong side.

Leeds must also think about resting key players like Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt, and avoiding potential injuries.

There are players who cannot be selected because they are on international duty. These include Stuart Dallas, Chris Wood, and Charlie Horton.

Here is a look at the experimental XI Leeds should select for the fixture...

                                     Marco Silvestri

Sam Byram  Sol Bamba  Giuseppe Bellusci  Gaetano Berardi

                        Tommasso Bianchi      Casper Sloth

    Jordan Botaka                                                     Will Buckley

                      Souleymane Doukara      Lee Erwin

In goal this would be an ideal game to give Charlie Horton an opportunity, but he is with the USA under-23 squad, so Leeds will have to go with Marco Silvestri.

At the back it is a good opportunity to get Sol Bamba back involved. Bamba has missed the last two games, and it's a chance for the club captain to recover his sharpness. Liam Cooper is nursing the injury sustained against Huddersfield, and Giuseppe Bellusci should be allowed to continue his recent good momentum.

At full-back, expect Gaetano Berardi to line up on the left again in place of the absent Charlie Taylor, meaning on the opposite side, it is another game for Sam Byram to get back involved in his preferred position.

In central midfield Casper Sloth's under-21 performances have almost demanded he gets a shot, but to be fair to him, this needs to come in his preferred position, rather than on the wing, where he has failed to produce before.

The game would also allow Tommasso Bianchi an opportunity to continue his comeback from a knee injury.

Out wide this is a great chance for summer signing Jordan Botaka to show what he can do, and if loanee Will Buckley is selected on the opposite flank, it could make for an entertaining Leeds side. Botaka chose not to go on  international duty with DR Congo so he could play in this game, and it would be a shock if he was not selected.

Up front Mirco Antenucci should be rested, and Souleymane Doukara's under-21 form should be rewarded with a start in his favoured position. Lee Erwin has been on loan at Bury and needs an opportunity to show what he can do, and this is just that.
