Sunderland beat Athletic Bilbao in the under-21 cup.
Mikael Mandron was among the starters as Sunderland's under-21 side beat Athletic Bilbao's B team.
Sunderland were backed ahead of the game by first team striker Jermain Defoe, who took to Twitter to offer his encouragement.

Sunderland's team was made up of promising youngsters like Mandron, and first team fringe players such as Danny Graham.
Graham played an important role in the game, scoring the opening goal in the first half before Bilbao netted an equaliser before the break.
Central midfielder Martin Smith was the matchwinner, converting a penalty late in the game after Patrick Van Aanholt was fouled inside the box.
Van Aanholt is another who has featured for the first team, who has dropped into the under-21s to develop his game and get keep up his fitness.
