Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi has been injured in a match for France's under-21 side.
The left-back went down in clear pain, clutching his knee, and was stretchered off in the match against Northern Ireland.
French website Footmercato report he has been taken off with a serious injury, adding that the cries of the player suggest the worst.
Amid a difficult start to the season for Aston Villa, Amavi has been a bright spot.
He had been looking like the club's best summer signing after his switch from Nice, settling instantly and becoming a must-pick at left-back.
His form was only expected to improve under the tutelage of new manager Remi Garde, but his season is now full of uncertainty.
The worst case scenario is that this is a season ending knee injury, but there is no confirmation either way at present, meaning an anxious wait for Aston Villa supporters.
