Neil Warnock praises Crystal Palace pair Cabaye and McArthur

The Crystal Palace Eagle

Crystal Palace have been performing above expectations in the Premier League this season.

Few expected Palace to enjoy such a strong start to the season, and Neil Warnock has praised Yohan Cabaye and James McArthur when speaking to talkSPORT {aired Thursday, 08:10).

He said: “I’m glad I signed McArthur because he’s been superb. I watched Cabaye play, and he’s just such a difference. Him and McArthur are great. Together they are as good as anything in the league

It was Warnock who brought McArthur to Palace in 2014, signing him on transfer deadline day from Wigan Athletic.

He has now established himself in Alan Pardew’s midfield, and alongside Cabaye, the pair can compete with some of the best midfields in the Premier League.

Cabaye possesses the flair and attacking skill needed to orchestrate Palace’s offensive moves, whilst McArthur sits slightly deeper and shields the defence. These conflicting traits mean they fulfil the perfect abilities as a midfield partnership, and when on form, the duo look excellent.

Any success Palace will enjoy this season will come from the solid base their midfield will provide, and whilst bringing in Cabaye was proof that the Eagles are taking the league seriously, it is the likes of McAthur and Joe Ledley who are the real stalwarts of the side.

They do work that is often unnoticed and under appreciated, and considering Palace love playing with flair and attacking intent, these energetic midfielders are needed to ensure Palace are not overrun.

Warnock may have done little good whilst in charge of Palace, but bringing in McArthur has undoubtedly turned into a highlight of his spell at Selhurst Park.
