Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge tells fans to vote for Fleetwood Town's David Ball in FIFA Puskas award

The pair were team-mates in the FA Youth Cup winning Manchester City side of 2008.

This year's nominees for the FIFA Puskas Award, won by James Rodriguez for his epic World Cup strike for Colombia last year, have been unveiled with the usual mix of superstars to efforts from players plying their trade at a lower level of the game.

Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez are up for the award whilst the likes of Alessandro Florenzi and women's football star Carli Lloyd are also present in the final ten-person strong shortlist.

There is just one goal from English football last season, and that is the goal that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is imploring his followers on Twitter to vote for.

He sent out this tweet earlier today telling his fans to vote for Fleetwood Town striker David Ball:

Ball scored a fantastic chip from range against rivals Preston North End in a League One tie back in March.

The Liverpool striker also has a personal reason to be backing Ball. The pair won a FA Youth Cup playing up front together earlier in their careers at Manchester City.

Their careers might have gone in different directions since then but there is no doubt that Ball has some talent in his locker to pull off a goal like this.

If he gets the backing of Liverpool fans then there is no reason why he can't overcome the Argentine powerhouses that are Messi and Tevez to take the illustrious award.
