The Leeds United player is on international duty in the coming days.
The New Zealand international arrived at Elland Road during the summer and he has quickly proved to be an excellent signing, scoring six goals in 16 appearances to date.
Wood was exactly the type of goal-scorer Leeds needed to bring in and his previous experience in the Championship has proved invaluable.
With Steve Evans now in place, Wood is benefiting from playing alongside fellow striker Mirco Antenucci and the two of them have what it takes to develop a highly effective long-term partnership at Leeds.
That said, while many of his Whites teammates will be preparing for a friendly against Wycombe Wanderers later this week, Wood is with New Zealand for their latest clash.
Ahead of that encounter, the 23-year-old spoke to the YEP as he prepared to captain the All Whites.
“Leading the side out is a huge honour every single time and it’s an honour putting on that jersey every single time,” Wood said. “I’ll definitely give it my all as always and lead from the front.”
When Wood returns to Leeds he will be gearing up for a Championship match against Rotherham United, when the Whites’ former manager Neil Redfearn will return to Elland Road with his new side.
