Dwight Gayle was forced to miss Crystal Palace's match against Liverpool at the weekend.
Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle has informed Sky Sports that he is hopeful his current injury problem is not a serious one.
Gayle was forced to sit out on Palace’s match against Liverpool at the weekend with a hamstring complaint, but the striker is optimistic that he will be able to return to the fold quickly.
The former Peterborough United man has revealed that he is set for to have a scan on the ailment in the near future, but he is not overly concerned about the issue.
"I felt a niggle before the Liverpool game but hopefully it is not too bad, and hopefully I am back playing as soon as I can," he said.
"There's not a certain date, I'm just going to see how it goes. I think I am going to have it re-scanned in the next week or so."
Gayle will have been disappointed to miss out on the Liverpool match, as he is looking to nail down a spot in Palace’s starting line-up.
The 25-year-old has had to bide his time for regular starting action at Selhurst Park, but he was getting a run of games prior to his injury.
Gayle will hope that he will go straight back into Palace’s team when he does return to fitness, but there will no guarantees of that.
Palace beat Liverpool 2-1 at the weekend, and that result may see Gayle consigned to a back-up role when he does make it off the treatment table.
