Liverpool's recent injuries in defence have led to speculation the club could recall loanee Tiago Ilori.
The Portugal under-21 international is yet to break into the Aston Villa side after signing on loan for the season, and the decision rests with the Midlands side, should Liverpool make their intention clear to bring him back, report the Liverpool Echo.
The Mirror now add new light on this possibility, claiming Aston Villa have their eye on signing another central defender.
The report states Villa are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Tom Lees, who has been impressing for the Championship side this season.
Lees' side kept a clean sheet in Capital One Cup wins against Arsenal and Newcastle, and has helped the side up to ninth place in the league, four points off the play-offs.
Villa have competition, with The Mirror reporting Norwich City, Sunderland and Newcastle United are all also monitoring Lees, valuing him at £7 million.
With Ilori failing to make his mark at Villa so far, it is very possible they could cede to Liverpool's wishes to bring him back, with Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez suffering injuries for the Reds in recent weeks.
