The young German has been tipped to sign for Liverpool but Tottenham Hotspur must do all they can to bring him to White Hart Lane if he does move on.
Earlier this year, German newspaper Der Westen reported that Tottenham Hotspur were keeping a very close eye on Schalke teenager Leroy Sane, and when you consider how well he has started the new campaign that is no surprise.
Sane may be only 19, but he has already scored five goals and provided four assists in 18 appearances – not bad for a winger still in his teens.
In total Sane has 14 goals and 13 assists in just 39 matches for the Bundesliga club, and according to football journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, he would be surprised if Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not go all out for the youngster at the first available opportunity.
Fjortoft made his claim on Twitter earlier this week, but whatever Liverpool’s plans, Tottenham should do everything they can to stay one step ahead of Klopp despite his in-depth knowledge of the football in his homeland.
Tottenham may have added Heung-Min Son and Clinton N’Jie to their squad in recent times, but they could do with more goal-scoring options out wide and Sane fits the bill perfectly.
He is young enough to have considerable sell-on value should he reach his potential and he matches the criteria for a Daniel Levy signing.
He will not come cheap, and given that he has a contract with Schalke until the summer of 2019 he may not come at all. But if Liverpool go digging and there is a chance of a move, Tottenham should do everything in their power to gazump them.
Spurs already have a great young squad set for a very bright future, but Sane could be the superstar in the making who propels them to the next level.
