This international break will be vital for Tottenham's Nabil Bentaleb

The Tottenham Hotspur player has a lot of work to do to get back into the first-team.

Last season Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb was proving to be a key player for them, and by the end of the campaign the young Algerian had played 35 matches in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

However, injury has ruled the 20-year-old out of all but four Tottenham matches this season and while he was recently spotted back in training with the first-team, the Premier League match against Arsenal came too soon for him.

That said, he has been deemed fit enough to travel for Algeria’s upcoming international double-header against Tanzania and those matches – which take place on Saturday and the following Tuesday – will be the perfect chance for Bentaleb to prove he deserves a place in Tottenham’s first-team once more.

The problem for Bentaleb is that in his absence Eric Dier has blossomed into one of the most effective defensive midfielders in the Premier League and on recent evidence there is no chance the Algeria international will be selected ahead of the England man when both are available for Spurs.

With Dele Alli excelling for Tottenham alongside Dier, the best Bentaleb can hope for in the short term is some time from the bench and some outings in the Europa League, but if he does well for his country later this month, Pochettino will have to sit up and take notice.
