Steve Evans says Leeds United's fringe players could force their way into squad to face Wycombe

The Leeds United boss has spoken ahead of Friday's friendly fixture.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has been speaking to the club’s official website ahead of his side’s friendly with Wycombe Wanderers later this week.

The international break means no Championship action for the Whites, but a specially arranged match with the League Two club will allow Evans to run the rule over first-team stars and fringe players if he so wishes.

Not that Wycombe should expect an easy match, with Evans confirming to leedsunited.com that he will be taking his strongest available side to Adams Park.

“We’re treating this as a normal competitive game,” the Leeds boss said.

“The supporters can expect to see the usual faces – aside from those away on international duty – but there is also the opportunity for certain players to force their way into our plans between now and then.”

While Evans did not name names, it is no secret which Leeds players will be desperate for some action with the first-team squad, with the likes of Casper Sloth, Tommaso Bianchi and Souleymane Doukara all featuring for the under-21s earlier this week.

Young striker Lee Erwin will also no doubt want some minutes having recently returned from a loan spell at Bury. But with Evans wanting to maintain Leeds’ recent good form, it will take quite an effort to force him to change a winning team…even for a friendly.
