Both Benteke and Delph left Villa in the summer transfer window. While the former joined Liverpool, the latter moved to Manchester City.
The circumstances under which the duo left were quite different. While it was always clear that Belgium international striker Benteke will depart the Villans, Delph initially stated his intention to remain at the club but then made the switch to City.
Delph returned to Villa Park as a City player on Sunday afternoon when the two sides met in the Premier League.
The former Leeds United midfielder was booed by the home crowd, as they made it clear what they thought of the 25-year-old.
Former Villa striker Collymore has predicted on BoyleSports that Liverpool star Benteke will not be met with the same response when he returns to Villa Park.
“When Benteke comes to Villa with Liverpool, I guarantee he’ll get a muted round of applause, no snakes, no fuss,” wrote the former England international. “Why? He didn’t try to b******t the supporters who paid his wages, twice.”
Villa are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment, while Manchester City are currently at the top of the standings.
