Richard Keys reacts to Aston Villa performance, has message for fans

Aston Villa played out a goalless draw with Manchester City at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Well-known sports presenter Richard Keys has suggested on his website that Aston Villa fans should not get carried away with the result against Manchester City at the weekend.

Villa held City to a goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

It was new manager Remi Garde’s first game in charge of the Villans, and the players clearly stepped up their game.

Former Sky Sports presenter Keys has said that he was not surprised with the performance of the Villa players, but he has claimed that the fans should not get carried away.

“I don't think anyone was surprised by the reaction Remi Garde got from his players,” Keys wrote on his website. “It always happens when a new guy goes into a club.

"His problem is that only one team has ever got out of trouble having amassed only four points from 11 games. That was Crystal Palace, under Tony Pulis. a P Lge master.”

“I spent the weekend with Nigel Pearson on beIN Sports,” added Keys. “What an impressive guy he is. Whoever employs Pearson next is getting a first class operator.

“Tim Sherwood was with us as well, a little bruised from his experience at Villa. I don't think he experienced anything that Paul Lambert or Alex McLeish didn't. Or Gerrard Houllier and Gary Mac for that matter.

"It makes the days when Deadly Doug called the shots seem a long lost era of tranquility. Be careful what you wish for……”

While Keys is right in suggesting that Villa fans should not get carried with the result against City, the performance of the team was encouraging.

The Villa players passed the ball better and also showed more intensity in their game.

True, it was City who made most of the attacking moves and created most of the chances, but the Villans should be lauded for picking up a point against arguably the strongest team in the Premier League.
