Liverpool and Everton have been linked with Riccardo Saponara.

According to a report by the Italian website TMW, Liverpool and Everton have sent scouts to track Empoli star Riccardo Saponara.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has earned widespread praise throughout Italy this season following a number of superb Serie A performances for unfancied Empoli.

In nine league starts, he already has four goals and four assist to his name.

Saponara’s rise to prominence has alerted a number of Italian’s bigger clubs plus Premier League duo Liverpool and Everton who have sent scouts to check him out, according to the report in TMW.

Saponara started his career at Ravenna before moving to Empoli in 2009. A two year stint at AC Milan occurred through 2013-15, but after failing to shine at the San Siro he returned to the Azzurri.

Predominantly an attacking player, the former Italy U21 international excels in dribbling, long shots and creativity as he often supplies his teammates via a number of key passes per match.

Liverpool’s struggles for goals this season have been evident by the fact that combined they’ve only managed to notch one more than Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

Aside from Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge, there doesn’t appear to be too many goals from other areas and bringing in a goal-scoring attacking midfielder in January makes perfect sense.

Everton, on the other hand, have the likes of Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu for attacking company but there appears no harm in adding healthy competition to their squad.
