Kevin Wimmer is hoping to get some playing time under his belt while on international duty with Austria.
The defender signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer from Bundesliga club Cologne, but has seen his move overshadowed by the subsequent addition of Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld has renewed his international partnership with fellow Belgian Jan Vertonghen, and pundit Jamie Redknapp told The Mail that he felt the ex-Southampton loanee is the best defender in the Premier League this season.
That is what Wimmer is currently up against, and it has been tough going for him so far.
Mauricio Pochettino sees him as nothing more than a back-up at present, and he is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football this season.
He has only played two games in other competitions, the 2-1 Capital One Cup loss to Arsenal, and a win in the Europa League against FK Qarabag.
Wimmer posted a message via his twitter feed yesterday expressing his enthusiasm for playing with Austria this week, with the team having already qualified for Euro 2016, their first major tournament since they co-hosted Euro 2008.
For his country, Wimmer has too been on the bench in recent qualifiers. He will hope to get a chance in this week's friendly on Thursday against Switzerland, which can help keep him sharp for when he is called upon for his club.
