Noble believes two of his West Ham teammates deserve to be in the England squad.
Speaking to the Mirror, Mark Noble has expressed his belief that two of his West Ham teammates deserve to be called up for the England squad, following a run of impressive performances by Aaron Cresswell and James Tomkins.
The Hammers captain said: “I have been surprised Cresswell hasn't been in the England squad since I have been here. Cress and Tomks [Tomkins] actually, they have both been great. It's for the boys to break into that team. I have got no doubt in the quality they have got and hopefully they will do soon.”
Cresswell has consistently been one of the best performing left-backs in the Premier League since his arrival at the Boleyn Ground from Ipswich last summer.
Tomkins has been less consistent than his defensive teammate, but he is enjoying a prosperous season this term, and has shown a versatility to play at both centre-back and right-back since Slaven Bilic’s appointment
Unfortunately for the duo, Roy Hodgson has other impressive Premier League players to call upon in their respective positions.
Cresswell has to face competition from Ryan Bertrand, Kieran Gibbs and Danny Rose, all who possess the same attacking instincts as the West Ham man, whilst being defensively sound.
There is no aspect to Cresswell’s game which makes him a more logical option to call upon, so he is mostly hoping for one of his rivals to lose form or suffer an injury.
Similarly for Tomkins, the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jagielka, Gary Cahill and John Stones are all regular call-ups, and are impressive and consistent performers at both club and international level.
Phil Jones is the only player who Tomkins could realistically replace in the squad, and the Hammers star has shown the same sort of versatility as Jones which suggests he could take his place in the team.
West Ham have been performing well above expectations this season, and as long as the likes of Cresswell and Tomkins continue to play as they have been, they will continue to push Hodgson for potential call-ups.
