West Ham United and Everton drew 1-1 in an evenly contested Premier League match at the weekend.

Winston Reid has told London24 that West Ham United’s defenders vowed not to allow Everton to score again after Romelu Lukaku netted against them at the weekend.

Lukaku scored an equaliser for Everton in their match against West Ham at the weekend, which finished 1-1.

And Reid has revealed that West Ham decided to tighten up after Lukaku hit the back of the net for Everton, as they realised that they couldn’t afford to give away another goal.

“It was addressed before the game that we had to deal with him. I played him like I would any striker, but unfortunately he managed to score again," Reid said to London 24. "After that we told each other no more goals and we managed that.”

West Ham’s defence may have been disappointed to concede to Lukaku, who now has seven goals in his last seven games against them, but the striker’s goal was excellent.

The powerful Belgian international latched on to a through-ball from Gerard Deulofeu, before rounding Adrian and slotting the ball into an empty net.

Thankfully for West Ham, Manuel Lanzini’s earlier strike meant that they were able to get something from the fixture, to ensure that they stayed near the top of the Premier League.

West Ham are currently sitting in sixth place in the table, and they are only three points outside the Champions League qualification spots.
