Charles N’Zogbia made his first appearance of the season for Aston Villa on Sunday.
He said: “There was more penetration in the second half with Charles N’Zogbia. It will be interesting to see if the new Aston Villa manager will welcome him back into the squad on a more regular basis.”
N’Zogbia has been becoming an increasingly disliked figure at Villa Park this season, due to his apparent unwillingness to play, whilst still earning big money.
He failed to play a single game whilst Tim Sherwood was boss this season, but Garde recalled him to the first-team set-up in his first match, naming him on the substitutes bench against Manchester City on Sunday.
He managed to make it onto the field of play as well, playing the final 25 minutes of the 0-0 draw with City, although he had little impact upon the game.
The winger failed to play a single key pass, or have a shot on goal, although he did complete one dribble. He added nothing defensively to the game either, and it is likely that Garde wanted to keep Carles Gil on instead, although he had to substitute Gil for the Frenchman due to the formers lack of full match fitness.
N’Zogbia came back into the fold, but he did little to show the quality that many know he does possess. With more game time he should grow into his role and former quality, and Collymore has admitted that it will be interesting to see if Garde wishes to show faith in N’Zogbia over the coming months, and make him a full time member of the first-team squad again.
