The goalkeeper was the star man in Newcastle's 1-0 win over the Cherries on Saturday.
The goalkeeper was arguably the star of the show in the Magpies 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon, as he made a string of saves to keep the dominant home side at bay and secure all three points for his side.
It was very much a hard earned clean sheet for Elliot, his second successive one in the league, and Coloccini says that the side need people with Elliot’s attitude if they are to escape their current perilous position in the league.
"I'm really glad to see Robbie back and to play the game he played. He is a fantastic man and deserves this," he told nufc.co.uk.
"We need people like Robbie, with his strong character, in this dressing room. He never lets us down and when things are not going well he will not hide. He steps up, wants to play and wants to help the team."
It was not a vintage performance from Steve McClaren’s side at the Vitality Stadium, as they spent most of the game on the back foot, with the home side crafting a number of chances to try and win the game.
In contrast, Newcastle chances were few and far between as they failed to create many chances at all and instead took the one clear cut chance they had to secure victory with Ayoze Perez’s strike.
And Coloccini admits it wasn’t the best display, but in the end, all that mattered were the three points at the end of the game.
“The three points was all that mattered,” he added.
"It was a very important win for us. This result gives us even more confidence and trust in the way we are going. We know we are going in the right way and the results are starting to show that."
