The striker was also linked with moves to Manchester United and Tottenham previously.
The young forward enjoyed a stellar first campaign in England last season despite his side’s struggles, with his form catching the eye of many clubs.
He was heavily linked with a move to both Manchester United and Tottenham in the summer, with a report from the Shields Gazette suggesting the latter could return for him in the January transfer window.
However, it now transpires that they weren’t the only side interested in his services, with the Chronicle saying Liverpool were also keen on the player.
According to their report, former manager Brendan Rodgers had the player at extensively as he sought to overhaul his squad following a disappointing campaign last season.
It is unknown whether the side are still interested in the striker though, with Rodgers now having been replaced by Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
On the whole, it is not surprising to learn of Liverpool’s interest in Perez in the summer, with them struggling for goals last season in the absence of Daniel Sturridge.
It is something that they tried to fix with the addition of Christian Benteke, although with both he and Sturridge having struggled for fitness this season, it is still a weak point in the side.
Perhaps Klopp may eye a move for Perez in January then, with him well known for having targeted young talent to develop in the past.
