The Liverpool defender could be out of action for some time.
Following Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho’s injury against Crystal Palace on Sunday, it is now being reported by the Liverpool Echo that the player has dropped out of France’s squad for their upcoming friendlies amid fears he could have suffered a serious blow.
Sakho fell to the ground clutching his knee after landing awkwardly in the match against Palace and he was soon replaced by fellow centre-back Dejan Lovren with Liverpool ultimately losing 2-1 to Alan Pardew’s side.
Sakho has played 11 times for Liverpool so far this season and he has started all of the Reds’ last seven matches, impressing in the heart of their defence.
But this blow is the latest in a string of injury problems for Jurgen Klopp’s side and the recently appointed manager will be hoping he does not lose the defender for the season, as he already has with Danny Ings and Joe Gomez.
The Liverpool Echo reported on Monday morning that there are fears at the club that Sakho may have suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which would be a hammer blow for Klopp at this time as he bids to lead his side up the table and potentially excel in the cup competitions.
