Steve McClaren’s job may be safe for now but the bookmakers reckon David Moyes is a shoo-in to become Magpies manager.
David Moyes may currently be licking his wounds following the news that Real Sociedad have decided to sack the former Manchester United manager but the Scot may not be out of work for long.
The Magpies are the 3/1 favourites to be the Scot’s next big job, despite the fact that Steve McClaren was only appointed to the role over the summer.
More importantly McClaren’s team are in good form, having picked up an important away win over fellow relegation candidates Bournemouth.
But while the Newcastle gaffer’s job may be safe for now, the price indicates that the bookmakers fancy Moyes to take the reins after a possible break from the game.
The Toon are not the only team in contention, however, with the figures also putting Swansea as potential candidates.
Rumours are currently circulating suggesting Garry Monk could be in line for the exit at the Liberty Stadium with the Welsh club 6/1 to be Moyes’ next club.
Fulham, meanwhile, are third in the betting at around 12/1 to be the Scot’s next job, following the dismissal of Kit Symons who was sacked after the Cottagers lost 5-2 at home to Birmingham City.
Elsewhere, Celtic represent outsiders to land Moyes with current manager Ronny Deila under increasing pressure following a run of poor results in Europe.
Moyes started his career at Celtic and would be a popular appointment with the Hoops priced at 14/1 to land the Scot.
But with plenty of managerial movements expected across the country in the weeks and months to come, the picture could change quickly for Moyes, Newcastle and the rest.
