Alli started for Spurs against Arsenal, and he put in one of the most impressive performances of any player on the pitch.
The 19-year-old looked a class apart, during what was arguably the toughest test of his burgeoning career so far, and Pochettino has praised the England international’s maturity.
“From the beginning of the season he has started to show he is a very good player,” Pochettino said. “Very young, but very mature. He just needs to improve, improve, improve.
“He gets the chance to play in every game, and he deserves it. It’s not only him, but it’s all the team – the effort was brilliant.”
Spurs dominated the North London Derby for large periods, but they could only claim a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
Harry Kane had given the Lilywhites the lead, but they were pegged back in the 77th minute when Kieran Gibbs netted an equaliser.
Alli was not the only Spurs player to impress in the match, either, with Erik Lamela also putting in a fine display.
The fleet-footed winger was a constant threat throuhogut the tie, and his relentless pressing also caught the eye.
And Pochettino said to the London Evening Standard: “For all players, they all need confidence, trust in themselves and to be patient.
“Sometimes when they’re very young they need to work hard and adapt, not on in quality, but also to the culture, life and language of a new city.
“Some players need more time.”
