Leeds United secured a strong victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
The former coach said: “They’ll certainly be delighted about the manner [of the win], because they’ve defended really well. The fluency of the football at times was not great, but throw in three fantastic goals, and it’s almost the perfect performance.”
Leeds clinched a 3-0 win over local rivals Huddersfield on Saturday, thanks to goals from Mirco Antenucci, Chris Wood and Alex Mowatt.
The opening two goals came within first-half injury time, before Mowatt rounded off the victory in the second period, and it was a performance to match the result.
The first-half saw Steve Evans set his team up to nullify any threats that Huddersfield possessed, before Leeds became slightly more open in the second period when two goals up.
It showed remarkable game management skills from head coach Evans, and the performance was one of the best that Leeds have shown this term - under either Evans or his predecessor Uwe Rosler.
Abbott has admitted that the defensive side of the game is one area in which Leeds would have been delighted with their performance, whilst also praising the three high quality goals which were scored.
The former coach has said that the football at times was not as fluid as it could have been, but that is a small criticism to make considering Leeds came away with a 3-0 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
After five games in charge, Evans has won two games and picked up eight points, and the performance v Huddersfield was one which suggested Leeds are moving in the right direction.
