Former Tottenham Hotspur player Graham Roberts has taken to Twitter to praise one Spurs player in particular following the latest North London derby.
Tottenham and Arsenal drew 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of goals from Harry Kane and Kieran Gibbs.
Kane opened the scoring for Spurs in the 32nd minute after a good cross from left-back Danny Rose and poor positional play from Arsenal centre-back Per Mertesacker, but the Gunners fired themselves back into the game when Gibbs beat Hugo Lloris with 13 minutes of normal-time remaining.
While another goal looked possible Tottenham held out and in truth Mauricio Pochettino’s side dominated for much of the encounter; something that will please all their travelling fans and plenty more besides.
But while the likes of Kane and young midfielder Dele Alli impressed, Roberts said Sunday was the day when Argentine winger Erik Lamela finally cemented his place at the club.
The 23-year-old struggled when he first arrived at White Hart Lane but he has shown real progress this season and against Arsenal he was mightily impressive.
Taking to social media after the match, Roberts wrote, “Erik Lamela, you became a Spurs player today; terrific fight, heart, spirit.”
The match and overall performance showed just how far Tottenham have come under Pochettino and the sky is now the limit for this talented young side.
