Former Spain U21 coach hails Newcastle player Ayoze Perez's talent and desire

The Newcastle United youngster has been impressing this season.

Former Spain under-21 coach Albert Celades has been speaking to Chronicle Live about the progress of Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez.

The 22-year-old arrived from Tenerife after scoring 16 goals in 41 matches for the Spanish club, and while he took time to settle at St James’ Park he was soon showing glimpses of his innate talent.

Perez ended last season with seven goals in 36 league matches for the Magpies and he has already netted three times in what has been a tough campaign for Newcastle a year on.

However Steve McClaren’s side are showing real signs of progress with their recent performances have seeing them climb out of the bottom three, and if they are to continue that good form Perez is likely to be key.

Speaking to Chronicle Live following Perez’s match-winning strike against Bournemouth on Saturday, Celades said, “He will definitely keep progressing because he is young and he has the desire to match his talent. We are delighted to see him developing in this way.”

For now Newcastle fans will be focused solely on how Perez does for them in the matches to come. But if he continues to impress he may yet get a chance to show what he can do on the international stage…albeit with a Spain squad where chances are at a premium given the quality they can call on.
