The Saints faithful were delighted with the Japanese defender on social media.
They were even more impressed with Ronald Koeman for selecting the 27-year-old, with plenty of surprise initially greeting the decision.
Many expected Cedric Soares to start for the Saints instead but it was Yoshida who took to the field of play against Sunderland. And Southampton fans reacted positively to the defender's display on social media, even mocking those who were unhappy with Yoshida's selection with ironic comments.
Indeed, there were a number of jokes about Southampton winning being Yoshida's fault and that picking the 27-year-old clearly cost the South Coast side...
As for the win as a whole, it was more misery for Sunderland and more joy for Koeman's men as Dusan Tadic converted the second-half spot-kick won by Ryan Bertrand. Southampton are up to seventh - only five points off the top of the Premier League table.
After the international break, the Saints will host Stoke City, while the Black Cats travel to Crystal Palace. But here's how fans responded to Yoshida's performance on Saturday...
Can't believe that Koeman picking Yoshida has cost us winning the game. The #saintsfc twitter experts correct again— Kingsland Corner (@KingslandCorner) November 7, 2015
