Ray Wilkins said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning that Remi Garde’s immediate task at Aston Villa will be to increase the confidence of the players.
"It’s obviously going to be tough because first and foremost you have got to lift the confidence of the players because they took a bit of a beating the other night at Tottenham Hotspur," said the former Villa assistant manager.
Villa are in dire at the moment and are currently at the foot of the Premier League table.
The players have been underperforming all season, and Garde has a tough task on his hand.
The Frenchman will have to hit the ground running, but the problem is that his first game in charge is against Premier League leaders Manchester City.
City will be favourites to win at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, and it will be interesting to what plan Garde has hatched.
A heavy defeat to the Citizens at home will be a huge blow to the players’ already low confidence, especially as the international break is coming up.
Villa have scored just 10 goals in 11 league matches and have conceded as many as 20.
