Mesut Ozil creates Premier League history with his key contribution against Spurs

Ozil Arsenal 8

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has made 10 league assists this season already.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has become the first ever player to assist at least one goal in six consecutive Premier League matches, as confirmed by statistical data analysis Opta.

The German World Cup winner arrived in North London boasting a reputation as an assist king following his superb contributions in La Liga with former club Real Madrid.

While his lack of goals may frustrate the average supporter, his ability to create chances for his teammates often goes unnoticed and there is no doubt he possesses a special gift in this regard.

Heading in to the North London derby, Ozil had found the net just once in nine league games but his record of eight assists – and at least one in each of his last five matches – is unmatched.

Ozil is the leading assist maker in Europe, and by adding another in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham he became the first ever player in the Premier League to achieve six on the spin.

In a North London derby largely dominated by the visitors, Arsenal’s best hope of a goal came from set-plays and Ozil’s delivery time and time again was right on the money.

Olivier Giroud wasted two glorious chances to score before Kieran Gibbs finally pegged Spurs back, finishing at close range via an in-swinging Ozil cross though this time from open play.

The 27-year-old struggled to impose himself on the match, yet when he had the ball in wide areas he was a constant threat and Arsenal will be grateful to have such a talent at their disposal.
