The much-criticised winger was praised by the pundit and former striker on Sunday afternoon.
Indeed, the former striker heaped praise on much-criticised winger Campbell for his strength - which will come as a huge surprise to many Gunners fans.
Hartson told the BBC: "I'm surprised by Joel Campbell - he's very slight but is so strong. It's difficult to push him off the ball."
Meanwhile, on Arsenal's goalscorer during the north London derby - Gibbs - Hartson said:
"He's in there. Kieran Gibbs has come on as a substitute and he's there where it counts, making a nuisance of himself. He got it on target which is the one thing you need to do - he gets his reward."
In truth, Arsenal were poor for most of the game on Sunday afternoon and Campbell received huge loads of criticism from supporters.
The spirit the Gunners showed to get back into things, though, was certainly commendable and it may bode well that they can get results while not at their best, particularly when it comes to any potential title race.
It's still difficult to see Arsenal going the distance. Once Manchester City get the injured spine of their team back, they could pull away from the north London side.
But the 1-1 draw was encouraging for Arsene Wenger's men on Sunday purely because they didn't play well and still came away with a point in a crucial game.
