Redfearn signing Brandon Barker for Rotherham could be painful for Leeds United

New York Stadium sign, Rotherham

Leeds United could rue missing out on Manchester City's Brandon Barker to Rotherham United.

Neil Redfearn has completed a potentially important signing in sealing a loan deal to bring Brandon Barker to Rotherham United.

The club announced the signing on their official website on Friday, adding the exciting winger to their squad.

Barker was strongly linked with moving to Redfearn's former club Leeds United in the summer, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting interest in July. The Star even claimed The Whites were trying to sign him on transfer deadline day.

Upon clinching the signing of the talented teenager, Redfearn told the club website that he was aware of previous interest in Barker. He said: "In the summer there were a lot of Championship clubs chasing his signature regarding a season long loan, so for us to get him out of City at this point is a real coup for us."

He added: "It is a great deal for us, he is what we need. He has the ability to open sides up and he can create goalsocring opportunities and he can score goals. He will be a massive addition for us."

The way the fixture list falls means Redfearn could get an early chance to utilise Barker against Leeds, when the two sides meet later this month.

The two teams meet on November 21, the first game after the international break, in what promises to be an emotionally charged fixture as the popular Redfearn returns to Elland Road for the first time in the opposing dugout.

Leeds finally won their first home game of the season earlier in the week to quell the increasing disquiet among fans, but the prospect of Barker inspiring a Redfearn coached Rotherham side to a win at Elland Road is a potentially painful scenario for the home crowd to have to endure.
