Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested on the Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 7, 2015) that Aston Villa attacking midfielder Jack Grealish could be under undue pressure.
While highlighting the fact that Villa lack spark, Merson said: “I look at Villa and I think: ‘what you have got when you go in there to spark you up, who is going to give you something out of the ordinary in the game?'
“Unless I say to Jack Grealish, ‘You are a free spirit, go and do what you want, and I will have to work around you and hopefully it works’…
“But you are asking a young kid who has played a handful of football matches. I worry about Villa.”
Villa have been genuinely disappointing all season, with many of the players severely underperforming.
Grealish has not been great, but he is a young and energetic attacking footballer who does some tricks up his sleeves.
The 20-year-old does not always track back and help out in defence, but with the ball at his feet, he does have the potential to create magic.
Perhaps, as Merson suggests, Grealish will be under undue pressure this season, but that is only going to make him a better and more mature player.
Villa will take on Manchester City at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. It will be Remi Garde’s first game in charge of the Villans.
