Former Leeds United and Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo has picked his 'one2Eleven'.

Former Leeds United and Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo has picked his first choice XI made up of former teammates.

Speaking to SkySports Fantasy Football Club, Matteo explained his decisions, which saw him select six of his ex Leeds United teammates, and five from Liverpool.

The now retired centre-back, 41, began his career with Liverpool, playing between 1992 and 2000 for the club, before signing for Leeds, where he remained until 2004.

His XI is as follows: Nigel Martyn; Danny Mills, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Carragher, Ian Harte; David Batty, Steve McManaman, Steven Gerrard, John Barnes; Mark Viduka, Robbie Fowler.

Discussing goalkeeper Nigel Martyn, he said: "He talked to me all the time, which I loved as a centre half. He was a great character off the field. If it wasn't for David Seaman he would have had a lot more England caps."

He also talked up his fellow Leeds United defenders, describing Danny Mills as under-rated, and claiming Rio Ferdinand was the very best he played alongside.

Matteo also praised David Batty, claiming: "He made my job so much easier. He was a proper Yorkshire lad, a fantastic footballer and he controlled the midfield."

During his playing days Matteo was capped by Scotland, switching after playing under-21 football for England earlier in his career.

At Leeds he was a key part of the squad which reached the latter stages of both the UEFA Cup and Champions League, but also suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Matteo told SkySports that he particularly enjoyed playing in the same team at Leeds as striker Mark Viduka, who he selected up front with Robbie Fowler.

He said: "We used to go for meals on Friday night. I'd have a couple of beers and he'd have a couple of fags. He'd go out the next day and score goals. He worked hard, he was a good trainer.

"The guy was solid, any ball you played up to him it sticks. He was an unbelievable footballer, great ability."

Matteo also had spells during his career with Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, and Stoke City.
