Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has written on Coral.co.uk that Arsenal can win the Premier League title this season.
The former England international striker believes that getting knocked out of the Champions League could help the Gunners in their title challenge.
“What Arsenal have shown this season is that their Champions League form does not necessarily carry over in their league form,” Shearer wrote on Coral.co.uk.
“As a matter of fact, it might actually help them being out of the League Cup and being on the verge of exiting Europe as their squad in not actually strong enough to fight on all fronts so they can then concentrate on the Premier League.”
Arsenal are third in the Champions League Group F with three points from four matches, six points behind Bayern Munich and Olympiakos, who are first and second respectively.
The Gunners can still progress to the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition, but they could also end up third and enter the Europa League.
Playing in the Europa League would not be ideal for Arsene Wenger’s side, but they should try their best to book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur
Shearer has also predicted the North London derby result. The former Newcastle star expects Sunday’s Premier League game between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium to end in a draw.
“Arsenal go into the North London derby this weekend with injury concerns – once again – so I am actually going for the draw,” the Englishman wrote on Coral.co.uk. “Spurs have been in good form so I think they can get something from the game.”
Arsenal are second in the Premier League table at the moment, while Tottenham are five points behind them in fifth.
