The Blues are unbeaten against the Hammers in the league since 2007, and have often found themselves in a goal scoring mood when they travel to London, with them having scored five goals in their last two visits in the Premier League.
One player who will be keen to stop that happening this time around is midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate, who has so far been a key component in the side during their impressive start to the campaign.
He will be coming up against Everton’s own key defensive midfielder James McCarthy, so we decided to compare the two this season to see who comes out on top.
|Season||Won Tackle GAME||Interception Won GAME||Effective Clearance GAME||Duel Won GAME||Outfielder Block GAME||Effective Blocked Cross GAME||Accurate Pass GAME|
McCarthy manages to win in four of the seven key defensive areas we looked at, but that may not tell the whole story.
The Irishman has enjoyed better success when it comes to passing the ball, registering more accurate passes per game than Kouyate, while he also comes out on top in outfielder blocks and blocked crosses, as well as effective clearances.
Kouyate, though, has the beating of McCarthy when it comes to tackles won per game, and interceptions won per game, while he also comes out on top when it comes to duels won per game.
So, then, a tough one to call, with both players sure to play a big part in which side comes out on top on Saturday afternoon.
