Shaq Coulthirst returns to Tottenham Hotspur after playing just 53 minutes in four months

The 21-year-old needs to earn his Spurs fast.

Tottenham Hotspur have developed a great reputation for bringing through young talent in recent years. One name that it is hoped will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Harry Kane, Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason is Shaq Coulthirst.

The lethal striker was linked with Barcelona once upon a time but at 21-years-old has still not made an impact on the Tottenham first-team.

This summer he was loaned out to Wigan Athletic of League One after previous spells with the likes of Leyton Orient, Torquay United, Southend United and York City.

But Coulthirst has now been recalled by Spurs after a poor time at the DW Stadium for the former England under-19 international.

Speaking to Wigan Today the Latics boss Gary Caldwell confirmed the news, stating:

“Shaq has gone back to Spurs. We had conversations with him and with Tottenham, and they decided they wanted to take him back.

“It’s something we’re going to look at again, because we still believe he’s a player with a big future.

“But at this moment in time it wasn’t a pressing issue.”

He has suffered with injuries this term and the 21-year-old managed just 53 minutes of football with Wigan since August.

He will now return to Spurs in a bid to get fit and try his hardest to impress enough for a new contract, with his current deal at Tottenham expiring in the summer.
