The Spurs boss says Dier is more than deserving of his call-up into the senior squad.
The midfielder has impressed so far this season for Spurs, having been moved into a defensive midfield despite playing most of last season operating as a central defender or at right-back.
His performances in the centre of midfield have caught the eye of England manager Roy Hodgson, with him this week naming the youngster in his squad for games against Spain and France this month.
And Pochettino says the 21-year-old is more than deserving of his selection.
“I’m very pleased for him, he deserves it,” he told tottenhamhotpsur.com.
“His team-mates and everyone at the club congratulate him because from the beginning of the season he’s showed a fantastic character and had some fantastic performances.
Given how impressive Dier has been for Tottenham so far this season, it is fair to say that he is more than deserving of his senior call.
Given the current shortage of defensive midfielders in the England set up as well, there is only Michael Carrick who is truly comfortable in the holding role, continuing his fine form could see him become a shoo-in for Euro 2016 next summer.
First he must impress in the tough games against Spain and France that he has been selected for, and if he does, there is every chance he could be a regular England performer in the future.
