Phil Thompson bemoans Tottenham Hotspur's lack of goals

Tottenham Hotspur have scored 19 times in their opening 11 Premier League matches.

Phil Thompson has argued to Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday that the lack of goals in Tottenham Hotspur’s squad is a concern.

Spurs have Harry Kane up front and Christian Eriksen in attacking midfield, but beyond that Thompson doesn’t believe there are many other players who can hit the back of the net.

The former Liverpool man claims that a number of the Lilywhites’ players are not known for their goal-scoring prowess, and that could be a concern as the season progresses.

“It seems like Harry Kane has been feeling the pressure, but we all appreciate his work-rate and what he brings to the team,” Thompson said.

“I would be looking at other departments. He needs to have people running behind, and it’s only [Christian] Eriksen who looks like he’s going to score goals in this side.

“[Nacer] Chadli doesn’t look like scoring, [Erik] Lamela doesn’t look like doing it and [Mousa] Dembele doesn’t look as though he’s going to do it.”

Despite Thompson’s opinion, Spurs seem to have hit their goalscoring groove of late – and they are scoring quite freely.

Tottenham have hit 11 goals in their last three matches in all competitions, and their record over the season so far has been fairly impressive.

Spurs have only been outscored by four teams in the Premier League, and they have a number of players chipping in with goals.

Kane is the side’s top scorer with six to his name, but the likes of Dembele, Heung-Min Son and Lamela have all contributed in a goalscoring sense so far this term.
