Liverpool put themselves on course to qualify from Group B of the Europa League with a 1-0 win over Rubin Kazan.

Liverpool got their first win of their Europa League campaign on Thursday night with a 1-0 victory over Rubin Kazan in Russia thanks to Jordon Ibe's first competitive goal for the club.

The result followed three consecutive 1-1 draws, and leaves the Reds in a strong position to qualify. A win over Bordeaux at the end of the month will mean they have secured their passage to the knock-out stages.

It could have been a more handsome victory for Jurgen Klopp's side, but the recently appointed Reds boss will be pleased that he has managed to extend his unbeaten run to six games, winning the last three in all competitions.

Klopp made four changes to his side, Dejan Lovren returned to the starting XI while Christian Benteke got his first start after a couple of injury problems - and managed to complete a full 90 minutes.

Given there weren't wholesale changes to the team, it is a sign of how seriously Klopp is taking the competition, compared to his predecessor Brendan Rodgers. Klopp said after the game that his side did not fly for five hours for a 'friendly'. Their performance showed they meant business, even if they would have liked more goals.
