The two strikers are in great form either side of the border.
Celtic again slipped up in the Europa League last night, going down 2-1 at home to Norwegian outfit Molde.
It was yet another poor performance in Europe from Celtic, who simply could not get keep their own goal safe whilst finding the supremely talented American teenager Ethan Horvath in sensational form for the Norwegian side.
He made a stunning save from Mikael Lustig but also denied Leigh Griffiths. The fact the striker did not find the net was a surprise. The tempestuous striker has scored 14 goals already this season including four in his last three prior to last night's game.
That sort of form and Griffiths' playing style saw him compared by a Celtic legend to the Premier League's current man of the moment.
The former Scotland international Charlie Nicholas spent five years at Celtic in the early 90's and started his career at the club before a move to Arsenal - he is something of a legend at Celtic Park.
"However, the hope that keeps Celtic driving forward is Leigh Griffiths, who is hot to trot right now, like Jamie Vardy in England, so I'm going to go with them to nick it (v Molde), but I fear there's a little bit of my heart leading my head here."
The two are certainly similar. Both are robust but slight looking players who are supremely confident in front of goal. Vardy may have the edge on pace, but Griffiths is no slouch.
Now all Celtic fans would want is for a similar scoring run from Griffiths to the one Vardy has put together for the Foxes in recent weeks.
